my new obsession

i'm one of the many dissapointed folk who practically cried when polaroid shut down. nowadays plenty of other major film names are coming out with instant film alternatives, including fugi's instant diana, holgaroid instant film back, and many other fun new gadgets. however all these new cameras provide clear, quality instant photos. the beauty of the polaroid was it's old film, the more expired the film the better. the graininess, the distorted colors, the unique square shape of the photo, no new film can come close. even these new websites and computer programs that generate fake polaroid templates fall short of the greatness of the vintage polaroid photograph. recently camera companies have been manufacturing new cameras with filters that give off the old film look (ironic?). still, these cameras are severely overpriced, and who knows how long they'll last.

my new obsession has become the underrated, forgotten underdog, the disposable. a pack of 2 for $6.99, 1 hr photo, and presto, an entire roll of color-distorted, grainy, red film-lined photos. they're fun, they're cheap, and if you break it or lose it, you haven't lost much. don't get me wrong, i love my Nikon SLR, but there's something beautiful about a raw, uneditted photo from a disposable camera. "if you have to overedit, it's not a good photo!"

disposables are my new polaroid. grainy film and red lines for all!
